Van Gogh painted the piece in 1889 in a refuge in Saint-Paul-de-Mausole. Here, he was allowed several privileges such as painting and reading. Starry Night was created during his darker period which was full of hallucinations and depression. A dark period which led to the creation of some stunning artwork!
